Magicians are a branch of the Explorers class, making use of powerful magic to attack with, and scaling off of Magic Attack unlike any other classes. The broadness of magical ability is such that upon 2nd job advancement a magician must choose to specialize, branching into either Ice/Lightning (I/L Wizard), Fire/Poison (F/P Wizard), or Holy magic (Bishop).

Skill and Job Advancement Table
1-10 10-30 30-60 60-100 100-250
Novice 1st Job 2nd Job 3rd Job 4th Job
Beginner Magician Wizard (Fire, Poison) Mage (Fire, Poison) Arch Mage (Fire, Poison)
Wizard (Ice, Lightning) Mage (Ice, Lightning) Arch Mage (Ice, Lightning)
Cleric Priest Bishop

Job Advancement

Upon reaching Level 10 as a Beginner, aspiring Magicians can go to the Magic Library at Ellinia and confirm their choice with Grendel the Really Old.

As per usual with 2nd Job Advancements, return to your 1st Job Instructor (Grendel) at level 30 and confirm your choice of branch with them.

Upon reaching level 60, go to the Chief's Residence in El Nath and speak with Robeira to start your advancement quest. Then head over to the Holy Ground at the Snowfield and defeat Grendel's Clone to collect the Black Charm. Return to Robeira with the quest item in hand for a classy new job title and a new set of flashy skills.

Upon reaching level 100, talk to Robeira again to get a Recommendation Letter for the Fourth Advancement. Bring the Recommendation Letter to the 4th Job Instructor Gritto in Leafre: Valley of the Antelope (Top) for acknowledgement. Beat up Manon and Griffey, pick up the Heroic Star and Heroic Pentagram, drop them off at Gritto's and you have officially advanced to the 4th job.

Fire/Poison Magician

Frequently abbreviated to F/P mage, the Fire/Poison Mage is reknowned for having tons of DoT (damage over time) with Poison Mist and their signature screen clearing Myst Eruption.

Standard play is throwing around Poison Mists and Paralyzing, then spamming Mist Eruption once the mobs are gathered.

Ice/Lightning Magician

Frequently abbreviated to I/L Mage, the Ice/Lightning mage is reknown for having excellent mobbing ability with Chain Lightning and (some time ago) one of the fastest climbs to 4th job.

If your damage is high enough you can just run around throwing Chain Lightning, but for mobs you can't kill that easily it may be more effective to gather them first with Glacial Chain.

Bishop

Though not possessing of the same mobbing and DPS of other classes, Bishops have an extremely supportive skill set making them a must-have in both party play and bossing. Heal or Angel Ray restore massive amounts of HP to allies while damaging enemies, and Advanced Bless grants a tidy sum of HP, MP, and damage to party members. Dispel removes many undesirable status conditions from both you and your party members, and for party play, Holy Symbol ups EXP gain drastically. And when things are turning sour, Ressurection will bring your fallen friends to life.

Vengeance of Angel lets you convert Angel Ray from an efficient mobbing attack to a single-target devastator; toggle it on or off as the situation requires, but be aware that many abilities are locked when single-target mode is active.
