Aeona the 1st was Grandis' former Transcendent of Light and the twin sister of Tana, the current Transcendent of Light.

History[]

Aeona and Tana[]

Long ago, Aeona and her sister were brought into existence in the Radiant Temple on Grandis. The Executors, who had been tasked with serving the Transcendent of Light, judged the twins in order to determine which of them was a Transcendent and which was a reserve.

Aeona suddenly began to hear the voice of the Overseers, which she described as "beautiful but cold". In response, the Executors bestowed the title of Aeona to her, indicating that she was the Transcendent of Light, and named her sister Tana, indicating that she was a reserve.

Pawn of the Overseers[]

Over the ages, Aeona was forced to maintain order on Grandis by the Overseers, who overrode her free will and compelled her to use her power of destruction to wipe out entire races without a trace. Aeona soon grew to resent her life and grew distant from her sister.

On one such occasion, Aeona discovered Tana reading a book about the powers of the Transcendent of Light. Just as Tana began reading about why the power of creation and destruction was split between them, Aeona destroyed the book, joking that it was so that they would not need to suffer through another boring book.

She then told Tana that her life was comparatively better, claiming that despite being placed on a pedestal as a Transcendent, she was merely being used. Claiming that Tana could simply be herself, she told her sister to enjoy her life for the both of them before leaving.

Death[]

Eventually, Tana was horrified to discover that Aeona had wiped out seven races on Grandis. She confronted Aeona, who claimed that she had no choice in the matter, as she had merely been doing her job. However, Tana concluded that Aeona had gone mad with power and decided to fight her.

The two sisters then fought with their powers of light and darkness, resulting in Aeona being killed by Tana. With Aeona's death, her Transcendent powers flooded into Tana, her reserve, resulting in Tana awakening as the new Transcendent of Light and receiving the title of Aeona.

Trivia[]

  • GMS named the Black Mage's two Knights of Creation and Destruction after Aeona and Tana by calling them the Aeonian Rise and Tanadian Ruin
    • However, this naming convention is incorrect, as Aeona and Tana are titles that refer to the Transcendent of Light and their reserve, not the powers of creation and destruction.
    • In other regions, the two knights are called the Aion of Creation and the Demiurge of Destruction.
  • Aeona is the first Transcendent who was killed in the game, followed by the Black Mage.
    • Though Transcendents are fundamentally incapable of killing other Transcendents, Tana was only a reserve at the time she killed her sister.
    • In the Cernium storyline, Gerand Darmoor states that "only a god can kill another god", referring to the fact that only someone with comparable power to a higher being can destroy them. As Tana is both immortal and holds half the power of the Transcendent of Light, her power would constitute as comparable to that of Aeona.
  • Grandis classes receive exclusive dialogue during the Esfera storyline, which states that there were rumors that Aeona had once fought Gerand Darmoor. However, it is unknown whether this refers to Aeona the 1st or Tana.
